Research

Leroy has recently started research at the Centre of Clinical Research Excellence in Spinal Pain and Health (CCRE Spine), at the prestigious University of Queensland where he is now an Associate Staff Member. Leroy is studying the link between gastrointestinal issues and back pain, under the supervision of the Director of the Centre, Professor Paul Hodges.
Professor Hodges is the world's leading researcher in exercise based spinal rehabilitation. He is responsible for almost everything we know about exercises for the "core muscles".
These muscles are the ones we commonly use during Pilates, or when we "strengthen our abdominals" at the gym on a Swiss ball, or by using Real Time Ultrasound with a Physiotherapist.
The early studies will be focussing Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) patients and the reasons that they experience back pain, or the reasons they are predisposed to back pain.
We are currently looking for patients with IBS, in Brisbane, that are able to participate in the study.
